Website Copywriting FAQ

What is Website Copywriting or SEO Copywriting?

Website copywriting (or SEO copywriting) is the process of writing content for your website that serves two purposes: to improve conversion rates and to improve your search visibility.

How do you know what to write about?

Every projects begins by asking you what kind of content you need.  From there we go through a Q&A to determine the direction for your content based on the landing page, audience, site architecture, etc.  Beyond the initial Q&A there’s a lot of research that goes into developing your content before we even start writing.

What’s including with website copywriting?

We do a lot more than just write.  Click here for a complete rundown of our website copywriting process

I have a lot of pages, can you handle the project?

I use “we” frequently when writing content for this site, but “we” is often “me.” As such, there are limits on how much I can produce in a given time, which is why there are lines forming each month.  I typically don’t outsource, so whether or not I can accommodate you in a given time frame will depend on how many clients I currently have and the number of pages you need by your deadline.  If I cannot accommodate you, I can try to refer you to another source for writers.

How much content goes on my homepage?

The best answer for any page is “enough to get the point across”.

Will you make sure there’s 3-5% keyword density on each page?

I don’t produce content based on keyword density.  If a client asks me to make sure the content has a high density for a specific keyword, making that keyword repetitive and unnatural, I will turn down the project.  I write for your customers first, and for search engines last.

Will using the same keyword on each page improve my visibility in the search engines?

It does not.  For more information, read this article on keyword cannibalism.

Does meta content matter?

Google doesn’t place importance or SEO value on meta keywords, but the meta title and meta description are still used to establish subject matter and relevancy.  They’re also the first thing a visitor sees when they locate your site in the search results.  We provide optimized meta content with every page we produce.

Do I need my physical address on every page?

It makes it easy for customers to contact you, and if you’re aiming to boost search visibility on a local or regional level then it’s a smart tactic and should be done.

Does my site design matter?

All the powerful copywriting in the world can’t save a poorly designed site or one with shoddy navigation.  If you’re revising your website content for a better user experience and improved sales, then you should check to see if you can improve your website as well.

Can’t I just use the content from one of my competitors?  I really like their site.

Google will index your site and find duplicate content.  Since it typically only displays one page among those with like content, the authority will be given to the site with more age, and more relevancy for that content – your competitor.  You also don’t know if that content is even serving them well.  Always use original content to make yourself stand out.

Do I have to supply you with keywords?

Part of our process involved keyword research.  If you have known keywords or you’ve done research, you’re welcome to provide us with the information but it’s not necessary.

I don’t need anything special, just write some articles and I’ll post them – is that fine?

Article content won’t sell your image, products or services.  It will put your customers to sleep.  Your site needs valuable, engaging and compelling content that moves customers through your sales funnel.

Why the research? Can’t you just write some simple content that will rank well?

In order to product quality content, we need to do detailed research.  Otherwise we won’t know what to write, who to write to, how to present it, or what to say in order to make it searchable.

How much does website copywriting cost?

Every project is different based on a number of factors.  To provide a price, we’ll need to discuss the scope of your project and the amount of content you need for your site.

How long will it take to produce the content?

We try to hit the requested deadlines of our clients, but production time can vary depending on the required amount of content and how many projects we currently have on the board.

What if I don’t like the content you produce?

Sometimes this happens during the draft production.  We do offer opportunities for revision in the event that you are not satisfied with the drafts you’re given and those revisions are always enough to bring content in line with what customers want.  In all our years, there has yet to be an unsatisfied client by the time the project was completed.

Why do you require a deposit on website copywriting?

There’s a lot of work that goes into website copywriting, even if it’s just for home page content or a single landing page.  The initial deposit covers our time and, due to the fact that we have such a high client volume with clients waiting in line, the deposit secured your place within the production schedule.
